Know More

A premium luxury watch supplement of The Rake Magazine, where I worked on three exclusive Middle East editions between 2012 and 2013, handling layout adaptation, ad placements, and full production execution from design to press.

Inside Editorial Process

While working at Pinpoint Media Group, I was part of the design team behind Rake Time, an exclusive luxury watch supplement of The Rake Magazine focused on refined men’s style. I contributed to three editions between 2012 and 2013 as Creative Designer, working alongside Jamal and Creative Director Karl Ibrahim. We operated under the editorial leadership of Jola Chudy (Editor-in-Chief), Sandra Lane (Editor), and Esther Quek (Group Fashion Director), with all ad materials managed by Richard Agyemang (Advertising Director). My responsibilities included full editorial layout and print preparation, balancing high-end visual storytelling with technical precision. Once layouts were complete, I reviewed both the hard proof and soft proof before giving final print approval.

Design Execution

Design Execution

The visual tone of Rake Time was elegant, masculine, and deeply rooted in horological storytelling. My role was to ensure each layout reflected the premium world of watches while maintaining clarity, rhythm, and harmony across all pages.

Much of the content came from international sources, which I adapted for a Middle Eastern readership. I integrated luxury ads into the editorial flow, ensured design consistency, and upheld the brand’s commitment to quality. Each spread was treated as a collector-worthy composition refined, timeless, and precise.

Tools & Print Workflow

Tools & Print Workflow

I used Adobe InDesign for layout, Adobe Photoshop for photo resizing and retouching, Adobe Illustrator for visual accents and layout elements, and Adobe Bridge for managing assets and ad files. All advertisements were sent by Richard Agyemang, and I verified resolution, bleed, and color accuracy for every single placement.

The magazine featured high-profile brands such as Rolex, Longines, Baume & Mercier, Jaquet Droz, IWC, Richard Mille, Panerai, Bell & Ross, Glashütte Original, Patek Philippe, Breguet, Omega, Chopard, Bovet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Carl F. Bucherer, Frederique Constant Genève, and more.

After preparing the print-ready files, I reviewed the hard proof to ensure paper quality, alignment, and image integrity, then checked the soft proof for digital precision. Only after both passed inspection did I give the green light to begin printing.

Editorial Impact

Editorial Impact

Rake Time was more than just a supplement; it was a benchmark of luxury publishing tied directly to the world’s most prestigious watch brands. With a limited-edition print run and exclusive placement in private clubs, five-star hotels, and luxury airport lounges, the expectations were exceptionally high.

My role as Creative Designer was not only about layouts; it was about protecting the integrity of the publication from cover to final print. Every issue had to reflect the sophistication of the brands we featured, and I ensured that no detail was overlooked. From design concept to press delivery.
