A print and digital experience that makes food shopping smarter, recipes richer, and layout design both beautiful and functional.
Inside Editorial Process
Launched in 2019, Good Taste Journal was a weekly food and recipe newspaper created for Bahrain’s audience. I worked as Senior Creative Designer and Assistant to Creative Director Karl Ibrahim, leading a three-person design team and overseeing all creative output and print production. Editor Lucy Land provided content and photography. I handled layouts in Adobe InDesign, and managed image resizing, retouching, and final artwork in Photoshop. Each issue featured fresh produce, supermarket deals, BD pricing, and barcode scanning that linked directly to the retailer’s website. The paper blended practical shopping with lifestyle editorials, launching both print and digital versions simultaneously. We produced six issues before the official launch, setting a new benchmark for weekly print in the region.

Approach
Approach
Good Taste Journal was created as a smart, inspiring guide for food lovers in Bahrain. From outdoor grilling tips to Netflix night recipes, every edition focused on flavor, family, and ease. It brought lifestyle storytelling into the supermarket space.
Each layout mixed editorial content with food pricing, styled images, and recipe features. The goal was to make food shopping both exciting and content-driven, while remaining accessible and visually refined for a wide readership.

Execution
Execution
I led the creative direction alongside Karl Ibrahim, managing a team of three designers and personally ensuring every page met production standards. We used Adobe InDesign for layouts and Photoshop for all image editing, including sizing and retouching.
Editor Lucy Land supplied structured content and visuals, and I collaborated with her weekly to refine layouts. Barcodes were embedded into product listings so readers could scan and purchase via mobile. Balancing functional pricing grids with editorial beauty was our key creative challenge and achievement.

Impact
Impact
Good Taste Journal launched with six trial issues before debuting as a full-scale weekly title. It combined the practicality of a shopping insert with the beauty of a magazine. Under Lucy Land’s editorial leadership, it also expanded into digital.
The newspaper was circulated across Bahrain’s top supermarkets and retail chains, introducing a new hybrid media format that merged food journalism with e-commerce convenience. As creative lead on this project, I shaped a bold new benchmark for print-driven retail experiences in the Gulf.
